The Bus Before Christmas there was unrest in the country due to the political situation and we were unable to travel as planned to buy the mini-bus that we had hoped would replace the pick-up truck. The purchase of the bus was to help with the problem of lack of space that we have at the moment to transport the children to and from the prison. During the period that we were unable to travel, the bus was sold, so we're praying that another vehicle will become available and that God will lead us to the right bus to use for the children.
Christmas Nativity Play December was a busy month with preparations for Christmas. The church "El Jireh" ran a Christmas programme with the children for two weeks before Christmas, with choir and drama rehearsals and the children presented a Nativity play on Christmas Eve at the morning service and it was great to see them participate in sharing the Christmas story with the parents who had come along.
New School Year 2007 The new school year started on the 5th January and the children returned to class after a two month break for the summer holidays. A lot of the children in the prison had to start new schools and had no birth certificates to enrol, so most of January was spent trying to help parents get their children's birth certificates and get everyone enrolled in school before classes started! Please pray for the children as they get back into classes, that they would do their best and work hard at school. Also that their parents would encourage them at home and be a support to them in their studies.
Apologies for the lack of formal updates recently. We hope to be able to update you all soon on the children and the work. Until then, keep reading below for some up-to-date news or click here for updates from 2006! |
Effects of the Rainy Season Trinidad is in the middle of rainy season the heavy rain over the past few weeks has caused a lot of areas to experience flooding. A lot of the families who live on the outskirts of town have been flooded and are being housed in tents on the town's ring-road. Classes have been cancelled for the next week because of the rain. Please pray for those who have had to temporarily leave their home because of the flooding and that help would be provided for them. The rainy and humid climate has also been a factor in the ill-health of many of the children who we work with and almost every day, at least one of the children has been ill and needing to be taken to the doctor with a fever, infection or bronchitis. Please pray for the health of the children and give thanks that medical attention and medicine is available to them through the health centre.
